Moon sign (rashi) calculator

In Vedic astrology your rashi is the sign the Moon was in at birth. It sets your daily rashifal, Sade Sati and kundli matching.

Date of birth

Why your rashi may differ from your “star sign”

Western horoscopes use your Sun sign in the tropical zodiac. Vedic astrology uses the Moon sign in the sidereal zodiac, which today sits about 24° behind the tropical one (the ayanamsa). So a Western “Leo” is often a Vedic Cancer by Sun, and their Moon sign can be any of the twelve. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days, so the time of birth matters.

Questions

Is the Moon sign the same as the rashi?

Yes. In Indian astrology “rashi” or “janma rashi” means the Moon sign at birth.

What if I do not know my birth time?

The Moon moves about 13° a day, so most people get the right rashi without a time. If the Moon was near the edge of a sign that day, the result says so.

Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (about 24° behind the tropical zodiac today) and the Moon rather than the Sun.
